Eternal Spring of Tenerife

One of the most perfect places on earth is Tenerife, a Spanish island, the largest of the seven Canary Islands. The temperature between the winter and summer months varies by perhaps twenty degrees in either direction, often remaining in the range of 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It seldom rains. And the island is a mix of mountains, lush, green forests filled with exotic animals, volcanoes and black sand beaches. This is paradise, and island where it is always springtime. It is one place where sitting on the beach sunbathing or swimming in the ocean, one can view a snow capped Mount Teide in the distance. The distance of just a few miles. This is Spain’s tallest mountain, at more than 12,000 feet. This is truly a paradise, with spas and luxury hotels Tenerife is the one place where it is springtime year round.

There are many points of interest and incredible beaches on the island. The best scenic views are found on the Northwestern coast. The natural landscape, and the Teno Mountains surround Masca, a picaresque and very charming village. It was very hard to reach Masca as the roads were very treacherous, and the village itself is very tucked away. But now the roads have been redone and are safe for travel, through an area that is said to have been the hide away for pirates. For many, the best way to get here is to hike, about a two hour hike, through the mountains. There are archaeological remains on the eastern coast, mysterious Pyramids of Guimar. Seven pyramids and the experts have no idea of their origin. Some theorize that they are just piles of stones, while other believe that they were built by humans and have similarities to pyramids in Peru and Mexico. Although the most of the beaches are man-made, due to the fact that this is a volcanic island, they are beautifully sculpted with imported gold and white smooth sand. Some beaches are natural, as in Candaleria, where the ’sand’ is actually shingles of volcanic rock. The weather, the beaches, the charming towns, are all reasons why this island is one of the most visited islands year after year.
