What’s the big deal with Twilight?

The teen vampire phenomenon ‘Twilight’ has swept the world map. But why is everyone so obsessed? It’s all about the love story people! Here is a Twilight synopsis in a snap for those who want to be in the know and ready to jump into any conversation about current pop culture.

The book series, called the Twilight saga, is a four book series written by Arizona author Stephenie Meyer. The books center on a young girl Bella Swan, who relocates from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington. The interesting thing about Forks is that it is the rainiest and cloudiest place on the United States map. Which of course is the perfect place for those who can’t be in the sun too much, ahem, vampires.

Bella enters Forks High school to find the Cullen family, and most notably Edward. The Cullens are a different kind of vampire family in that they are “vegetarians”; they feast only on the blood of animals, not humans. Edward is an eternally17-year-old amazingly attractive vampire who Bella falls in love with. She finds out about Edward and his family and becomes part of the secret.

What makes the story become more interesting is that Edward thirsts for Bella’s blood more than any other human he has ever met. So he must juggle his vampire desire for her and his human feelings for her. The story becomes complicated when a pack of rogue vampires, or non-vegetarians meet up with the Cullens and Bella. One of the vampires decides he will make it his goal to kill Bella and the action ensues.

The books are being made into films, the first grossing over $300 million worldwide. The next film, titled The Twilight Saga: New Moon is set to open in November 2009, just a year after the first installment.

Forbidden love, vampire hotties and even a bit of violence, really what is not to love?

There is nothing else like it on the map of the world!
