The Charming Town of Filey
The English town of Filey sits just off of a the Filey Bay, and on the top of a range of mountains and cliffs. The town remains filled with character of years gone by, from the times during the 1960’s and 1970’s, when the holiday and tourism industry was booming. The Filey hotels not the big bustling corporate hotels, all of them as small and quaint. Other options for accommodations are the cottages and the bed and breakfasts. There are no more movie theaters in the town, however one has been converted into a large pub.
There are many restaurants to choose from, included some great fish and chips stands and diners. Most of the town sits on flat terrain, and the cliffs have been decorated and filled in with garden terraces and perfect walk ways, making this one of the most peaceful and beautiful locations for a wandering hike. One of the towns most charming restaurants is now located in the crags of the cliff-side, the Rendezvous, one of the many locations to get a plate of authentic fish chips.
There are many parking lots along the beach, however during the summer months it is best to get to the water early as the lots fill up pretty quickly. Word has it as well, that the wardens patrolling the lots are sticklers and will measure the parking job to ensure that the cars are parked neatly, if not they may write out parking tickets. There is also ample space set aside for disabled drivers, with all the spots located up just near the beach and the water. The Filey Brigg is located to the north of the bay.
The side of the cliff has been eroded over the years which has served to create many water pools and strangely constructed pathways. This is best to pass through at low tide, however if the tide should rise the rocks on the cliff side are easy to navigate and to climb. All the paths are easily traversed by those in even the most moderate of physical shape. There is a lot to do and to see in the outdoors of the Filey countryside, and the location is perfect for a peaceful get a way in nature.
