Driving Habits to be Considered When Buying New Tires
One of the things to consider when setting out to buy new tires, is just how one drives on a day to day basis. The difference in long drives consistently and short drives in town, may lead one to purchase a different king of tire. For a vehicle used for long drives, say a tour bus for a rock band, they would want to look into tires with a higher speed ratio. Driving causes friction in the tires from the road. This turns to heat, and heat will wear a tire out very quickly. The speed ratio has to do with the strength of tires not only on a given speed limit, but on the amount of time one spends traveling at those higher speeds.
If one is in the habit of loading up their truck or car, as in someone involved in construction or marble sculpture, the carrying capacity should be considered. It is not only unwise to buy more of a tire than is necessary, it is always unwise to buy less of one than is necessary. Tires provide better fuel economy, the suppression of the outside noise, and a quality of the ride, as well as safety. However, as far as fuel economy goes, not so much is dependent on the tire per se, but in the keeping up with the proper air pressure for that particular tire.
So many times, the consumer should become as knowledgeable as they can become, and then go to a reputable shop wherein experts can fill them in. A common practice today is known as plus sizing. This simply means that one is buying tires that are more than they really need for their particular vehicle. In this case the entire wheel is replaced with one that is larger, and therefore the tires are larger. This is done for a couple of reasons. First is for the aesthetic appeal, the look of the bigger wheels. Secondly, this can serve to offer one with a better ability to handle one’s vehicle. However, the comfortably of the ride may go out the window.
