For those about to undergo an alcohol abuse intervention the prospect of rehab can look daunting. Yet for those families looking for something which can help makes a twelve step program more enjoyable there is color therapy. Though its name may induce images of new age gimmicks that don’t work, there is copious scientific evidence to suggest otherwise. It is also gaining more popularity addiction treatment centers since its affects have been astoundingly helpful in the recovery of those patients under their care.

Color therapy has its origins all the way from ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed that Thoth, the god of wisdom, invented it. Even the ancient Grecians found the practice useful. Employing the color of bodily humors, they believed they could discern the temperament of a patient and then provide him with the accurate medicines in forms of oils, minerals, and cloths necessary to balance out the body. Until the Middle Ages, this notion remained in practice.

New discoveries in science helped evolved the method of color therapy during the Enlightenment of the 18th century. Augustus Pleastanton claimed that he found grape size could be increased through the alternation of blue and transparent glass in a greenhouse. Only recently has color therapy started to gain respect among the medical community due to an increased professionalism in testing and procedures. In the fifties, doctors provided studies that showed that jaundice in neonatal babies had successful recovery through sunlight exposure. Back then, the disease was usually fatal and only exacerbated by the condition being found in about two-thirds of babies born prematurely.

But how is color therapy useful to alcoholics? Due to an increase in successful studies, doctors now use a very bright white light, which is a full-spectrum light to help in the treatment of alcohol addiction, in addition to other diseases. Though its origins may have had a dubious past, color therapy can be a helpful addition to suggest to an someone suffering from alcoholism during a treatment for drug addiction. The suggestion can also show how far family and friends are willing to go to help addicts get every kind of supportive treatment available.

National Institute on Drug Abuse:
The mission of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. In this regard, NIDA addresses the most fundamental and essential questions about drug abuse—from detecting and responding to emerging drug abuse trends and understanding how drugs work in the brain and body to developing and testing new approaches to treatment and prevention. NIDA also supports research training, career development, public education, and research dissemination efforts.

Through its Intramural Research Program, as well as grants and contracts to investigators at research institutions around the country and overseas, NIDA supports research and training on:

    * The genetic, neurobiological, behavioral, and social mechanisms underlying drug abuse and addiction;
* The causes and consequences of drug abuse, including the impact on society and morbidity and mortality in selected populations (e.g., ethnic minorities, youth, and women);
* The relationship of drug abuse to other mental illnesses and to psychosocial outcomes such as unemployment, low socioeconomic status, and violence;
* Effective prevention and treatment approaches, including a broad research program designed to develop new medications and behavioral therapies for drug addiction;
* The relationship of drug abuse to cultural and ethical issues such as health disparities; and
* The relationship of drug abuse to the acquisition, transmission, and clinical course of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and other diseases and the development of effective prevention/intervention strategies.

The information gathered by by NIDA is helpful to drug addiction treatment and drug rehabilitation centers across the US in need of drug rehab.

I did a search for "drug rehab facility Arizona" and I found a website to a rehab called Gatehouse Academy. They seemed to have the best center in all of Arizona and maybe even the USA. Their drug addiction facility is geared toward teenagers and young adults.

They learn cognitive behavioral skills that will help them to stay sober once they leave treatment and re-enter society. And because their clients are younger, they are often around crowds that use substances more, just as the college crowd. Transitioning these recovering users takes some time.

In fact, GHA has a third phase of transition that helps their clients even more. After a person graduates from their drug abuse rehab, they can enroll in the Gatehouse College Campuses program that will help them get back into school while still keeping their sobriety as their number one priority. This goes on for something like six months to a year and studies have shown that the longer a person stays in treatment, the better their rates of not relapsing are. And transitioning is a great way to do this.

Federal health officials restated their belief in the safety of childhood vaccines Thursday, reacting to questions raised by a government settlement with the family of a 9-year-old Georgia girl, who developed neurological problems shortly after receiving childhood shots.

The government agreed to pay the family from the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program in November. The issue has rekindled the autism and vaccine debate — on the Internet and in the media — in the past few days. The Associated Press obtained documents about the case from the Department of Health and Human Services, where the vaccine-compensation program is located. The amount of the settlement hasn’t been set yet. Read more
