There are some standard attractions associated with the city of Seattle, and these are some of the top tourist destinations as well. This tour of some of the more disturbing though also fascinating periods of history is complete with all the sounds and sights that were original to its operation. There are plenty more unique attractions in this great city.

Mummies in California

For generations kids (of all ages) have been fascinated by mummies. From silent films to the King Tut exhibition, these ancient corpses have captured imaginations and intrigued archaeologists all over the world. In 2010 that imagination is focused on the Mummies of the World exhibit . The collection features mummies and related artifacts from ancient civilizations in Egypt, South America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Some items in the collection date back 6,500 years.

The exhibit is currently on display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. The exhibition offers unprecedented insight into long dead civilizations, examining religious and cultural beliefs and scientific practices of those ancient times. Interactive exhibits show visitors how modern day science can study mummies using innovative and non-invasive techniques.

Walking Boston

Boston is America’s Walking City. So, when booking a room at a Boston hotel , find one centrally located in the city, that way no matter where you’re walking to, it won’t be a long hike back. A six mile hike will pretty much take you through all the better parts of Boston such as Fenway Park for the sports enthusiast, the Boston Public Library for the learned, Bunker Hill for the history buffs, the North End to get a fill of great Italian culture, and then down to Beacon Hill to top off the hike with a nice cold beer or a bottle of Jack.

Even if you aren’t a history buff, you can appreciate the incredibly long and storied history of the Bean Town; if you’re the type that enjoys following the dotted lines instead of following an itinerary, then Boston’s Freedom Trail is the thing for you. The brick-lined walk includes parts of Paul Revere’s ride, Boston Commons, Bunker Hill, the site of the Boston Massacre and a very scary old school gravesite where Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock are buried.

Boston is actually pretty dense, so there’s no lack of interesting places to walk to, that’s if your legs are up to it. A bonus sightseeing note for those of you from other states: most airports actually offer at least one direct flight into Boston, and if you fly in during the night the Manhattan skyline is all lit up and easily seen on the descent, which is absolutely breathtaking.

Lost Love in San Francisco

This is the city for lovers. It’s one of the most charming and romantic places in the country, if not the world, and people are often drawn to spend time here with the ones they love. There are also people who come here to get over a lost love, to spend some time in the museums and coffee shops, thinking about what happens next. There’s room for everyone, but every city has a special place for the heartbroken. A few days in a San Francisco hotel can have a remarkable effect on the soul, and the city probably has a lot to do with it, too.

For all the great tragedies people might carry with them, it’s hard to top the level of angst in one of the great local romances. It happened in the early 19th century, and the main characters were Concepcion Arguello and Nikolai Rezanov . They met because he was a Russian sailor who was meeting the Spanish here to discuss the possibility of a trade for supplies. He didn’t speak Spanish, and she didn’t speak Russian, but they fell in love anyway. She made a strand of their hair braided together, and when he left, he promised to marry her when he returned. Arguello waited for years, and Rezanov never did return. He died when he fell from a horse, and his last words were about her. There’s something in the air here.

Seafood and Beach Fun in Waikiki

Waikiki Beach is not only one of the most famous beaches in Hawaii it is also one of the busiest, and probably has a name that is most fun to say. It attracts all demographics of tourists and the hotels Waikiki are full of families as well as young couples on their honeymoon or older couples celebrating an honored anniversary. There is something for everyone in Waikiki and this is not lost on the tourists.

There are plenty of great restaurants in the neighborhood and along the beach and of course seafood is not only a specialty but a local and tourist favorite. Places like the Atlantis Seafood and Steak restaurant and Chart House are popular draws for tourist. And so are some of the great fine dining establishments such as Azure, Hau Tree Lanai and the Hanohano Room. It is possible to have a delicious romantic evening at these places or find a popular establishment and entertain the entire family.

The beach is extremely popular with almost all tourists. And some of them trek down to the shore to spread out a blanket and lay in the sun, while others have their full scuba gear and plan on getting right into the water. Others have a different intention for their wetsuits and plan on spending most of their time on a surfboard. Half of the beach is block off for surfing and the waters just off the shore are great for beginners and those with little experience.

Cancun Pok Chuk

The town of Cancun is one of the most visited places in the country. It’s a fascinating history, because a few decades ago, there were only sleepy fishing villages here. Developers had other ideas, however, and the color of the sea has such a spectacular variety of blues, it seemed like a natural place to attract tourists. It’s certainly worked, and it’s one of the big centers for travelers from within Mexico and from all over the world.

It’s along La Ruta Maya, but certainly not as rustic as some of the small towns. The five star cancun hotels are truly world-class, and set a kind of standard for how lovely a place by the sea can be. Most of these are also fairly all-inclusive, so that the guests can get everything they might ever need here, and never have to set foot in the city itself.

However, the city itself is a lively place, and the adventurous visitors might decide to head off in search of Pok Chuk made the traditional way. This is an old Mayan favorite, where pork is marinated in dozens of seasonings to make for a delicacy that is hard to imagine, and harder still to define. The truly traditional way to cook it involves burying in the ground and letting the heat of the earth bring the spices together. That might be hard to find, but also splendid to encounter.

The JFK Library in Boston

Across the United States, from California to Massachusetts, there are currently thirteen Presidential Libraries run by the National Archives in which you may visit and learn about various presidents. While other libraries and museums exist for presidents (such as the libraries for William McKinley, Rutherford Hayes, Calvin Coolidge, Woodrow Wilson, and Abraham Lincoln), they’re not a part of the National Archives but operated instead by state governments, or historical societies and other private foundations. In California, you’ll find libraries dedicated to Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. In Massachusetts, amid top Boston hotels and historic homes, you’ll find the Presidential Library of John F. Kennedy.

Visitors may tour the museum at the JFK Library and learn about the Kennedy years in the United States. Events of the early 1960s will be on display through three theatres and 25 multi media exhibits, recreating the Kennedy Presidency and the turbulent early years of that decade.

The library and museum are within a 9.5 acre park on Columbia Point, surrounded by shrubs, pine trees, and wild roses. During the summer months, from May until September, it’s possible to see President Kennedy’s sailboat, Victura, 26 feet long, at the edge of Boston Harbor.

Admission to these experiences is just 12 dollars for adults, ten dollars for those who are students or over the age of 62. If you’re in your teens, from 13 to 17, it’s only nine dollars, while if you’re still fortunate enough to be 12 or under, you can find out for free about a President who was in office 35 years before you were born.

There are a tremendous amount of great things to do in Miami, and the options go far beyond great beach activities such as surfing, scuba diving, sun bathing and all-purpose partying, though of course these are some of the most popular. However, the city is also full of prestigious cultural attractions and major entertainment venues. The club scene in Miami is one of the most famous in the country and it attracts people from all over the world, though the Miami Symphony Orchestra is also internationally recognized and one of the city’s major cultural establishments.

It’s never the wrong season to visit Boston

Autumn is fast approaching and most of us are mistaken in thinking the best time to travel has passed. This is the time of year airlines are cutting fares to drum up business between the summer travel boom and the family holidays.

Boston is an excellent place to visit for Autumn. The leaves are changing the amazing hues that many have only seen on television and the sights aren’t crowded but the usual throngs of tourists. It’s a sham most only think to travel for business. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, you could easily get a deal at one of many of Boston business hotels and sneak out to take a peak at the historical land marks while you’re there.

Just one of the amazing places in American history you shouldn’t miss while in Boston is the Old State house . It may seem dwarfed by the skyscrapers next to it but this brick building is where the Boston Massacre occurred, one of the events that sparked the American Revolution started just outside it’s walls. The first reading of the Declaration of Independence in Boston was read here on July 18, 1776. If that’s not enough history for you it’s also where the protesters that led the Boston Tea Party met and decided to sneak onto the British merchant ships, dressed as Native Americans, and toss tea into the harbor.
